The One Where He Talks About Birthday Apathy, Feeling Like A Kid, And Happier Things Down The Pipe

So today is my birthday.

And I’m trying to care.

Maybe it’s because, yet again, I cannot celebrate my birthday by getting drunk.

Maybe it’s because I’m now 22 which is kind of a bullshit year.

I mean seriously, 21 is cool because I could then drink legally and make full use of casinos.

No milestone about 22.

Another year closer to 30?

Ha, no thank you.

Maybe it’s because I’m impatient about all the awesome  things coming up later in the year.

Viva Las Vegas, anyone?

Maybe it’s because I’m still a good deal younger than most of my friends, both in real life and on The Internets.

You know what?

Maybe  it doesn’t matter.

Maybe my birthday is just a fresh start to do things I didn’t as a 21 year-old.

To be more positive.

To be more tech-savvy.

To be more open to my friends.

To be more a better blogger. A better teacher. A better boyfriend. A better man.

On second thought?

22 might kick seven kinds of ass.

  1. I’ll be a college graduate come May.
  2. I am slowly but surely learning how to play my ukelele. This makes me all kinds of happy.
  3. This will be the year of the nomad. I’ll be traveling to New York and Los Angeles to check out schools. I will be in DC come June to sight see and hopefully meet some of my favourite bloggers. I will be sitting at the cool kids’ table when Bloggers In Sin City rolls around.
  4. I’ll be in a whole new city no matter what happens. And for the first time, it’ll be a HUGE city. Will also be my first time living outside of the South. Hello impending culture shock.
  5. I’ve enlisted the lovely PQ’s help in moving to my own domain once I decide just how I want to do this.
  6. I almost have enough cash squirreled away to afford a video camera. Expect epic vlogging to commence.

Now here is where I talk about what I want from you. I get about 300 hits a week on average. I have just shy of 50 GReader subscribers and 10 others who subscribe through WPress. I hear from maybe 15 of you regularly. So I want to know something about each of you. Doesn’t matter what, would just like to put some personality into some of those random stats. And in return, leave a question for me to answer and I’ll post them in an interview next week.

    First! (hopefully)

This was my attitude last year. I was not excited at all about turning twenty because you can do everything when you’re 19 over here.
Still had an epic party, still had an epic year.

It’s pretty awesome that you’re playing Arkham Asylum, I totally geeked out when I read that Mark Hammill does the voice of the Joker again 🙂

    Happy Birthday! xoxoxo

Happy Birthday, Kendall! ^_^ I wish I could give you a great big birthday hug, so consider that done for me, would ya? This year will rock if you make it, and you will.

    22. Psh. I can’t even remember my 22nd birthday. I’m twenty-seven. Twenty-S-E-V-E-N. Read it again. Slowly. Now feel young, whipper snapper! I totally understand, though. I didn’t even drink at 21, so I’ve been looking for some birthday validation for a looooong time, like, since 17 when I bucked up and finally got my driver’s license.

Something about me? Am I a regular? I think I am. I’m telling you something anyhow. Hmmm…okay. Got it! I have a thing for guys that wear makeup. And not just the Johnny Depp swashbuckling guyliner type. Ever heard of Eddie Izzard? Not so striking fella that just so happens to dress in drag for his incredibly hilarious stand-up? Yeah. When he’s got makeup on? Hot. I think I have issues. 😛

My question for you: If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

Happy Birthday! Only a year younger than me. Something about me… I’m colourblind (and female, the combination of which is rarer than it sounds.

Question for you. What one thing to you want to achieve in life?

    Happy Birthday!
I’m the type who subscribes to blogs that have interesting personal stories or something about cooking. It’s getting to be a bit of a addiction :L
I really enjoy your blog, and I just thought I would post now to say that 🙂

Can 22 be the age where you FINALLY meet me!? I’d like that, ha. Happpppppppppy Birthdayyyyyy!

  8. January 28, 2010 at 3:01 PM

Even if you’re not feeling all birthday-y (and I can totally relate), I hope you have a nice one.

Something about me: I have kissed exactly five guys in my dating career.

Question for you: What is something that makes you laugh?

    Happy Birthday young one!!

I’m trying but I can’t remember my 22nd. . . I think the only thing momentus was graduating from college and realizing that I had to start acting like an adult. But hey, the next milestone is 25 – you get a discount on your car insurance (exciting I know) and can have a “quarter-life crisis.”

Something interesting about me – I’m the oldest of 10 kids (its a mix of half and step-siblings, my family is NOT the Duggars!) and 8 of them are boys.

Question for you: What song makes you dance-like-no-one’s-looking everytime it plays?

  10. January 28, 2010 at 5:40 PM

Happy birthday, friend. Viva Las Kendall and Vegas!

Question for you: what’s your favorite alcoholic beverage?

Happy Birthday! 22 is definitely a great year.

I don’t think I’ve ever commented- so hi! I’m stuck for something interesting about me rightthissecond so… head over to my blog where my Guy BFF has guest posted for me today. It’s hilarious 🙂

  12. January 29, 2010 at 1:03 PM

I don’t remember much about being 22, except that I almost got married to a guy with an 11 year old son. THANK GOD I didn’t. Eesh I can’t even imagine having a 14 year old stepson right now. Trust me, you’re already off to a MUCH better start than I was.

Also, I forget that you’re that young. You’re so much more mature than most men your age (who are really just boys) that it doesn’t matter. Happy birthday homeslice!

  13. January 29, 2010 at 8:11 PM

Happy Birthday Darlin!!! Hope you have a fantastic year! Trust me… it gets better and better as you get older 😉

hmmm something about me…. well… i plan on devouring a bowl of pistachios as soon as i finish commenting on here LOL

question for you : If you won the lottery tomorrow, what the first SPLURGE item you would buy? (no boring answers like pay off debts/bills or give money to family etc. it has to be something extravagant)

    *birthday hugs*

  14. January 31, 2010 at 11:43 PM

So I have to tell you something- When I clicked on your site, it led me to your old blogger site, and the first words I saw were “so today is President Bush’s last day in office” and I was like.. what. the. fuck is going on.

And then I read to the end of that post, and you had moved, and then i realized that your last post for that other site was marked jan.2009. Anyways, the confusion is over.

22 totally blows, but whatever. At least you’re not turning 30 or 25 (fml). You have things to be grateful for. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

    Well no, happy belated birthday

    But you get the point.

Good sir…I’m sorry I’m late. But happy birthday. I know the days following haven’t been the greatest for you but hang tight…you’re great and deserve greatness. I blame the universe for dropping the ball on that.

Happy birthday! I know that I am a bit late, but sometimes it takes me a while to comment on posts b/c it’s hard to do when reading on my Blackberry.

Happy Birthday! I’ve been caught up in life and neglecting my blog reading. I can’t remember much about 22, probably because it was my drink-too-much-and-forget-what-happened time in my life that I’m glad I now have out of my system. Hope you remember yours more than I remember mine.

Interesting thing about me: I’m turning the big 2-5 this year, which can be looked at as turning a quarter centruy old. What what?! Crazy. Also, I really want to get a pet potbelly pig once I buy a house.

Question: What is your earliest childhood memory? I always find those interesting.
